Synthesizer Tattoos

Synthesizer Tattoos

People love music. Geeks love electronic music and some of them are even musicians themselves. I can only assume that all these guys (and 1 girl!) are big fans of their synthesizer of choice.

Head on over to Synthgear.com for the full story on these tattoos.

Sexier Velma Tattoo?

Sexy Velma Tattoo

After seeing Spider’s Velma tattoo, it was apparently imperative that “moxy” send in his wife’s Velma tattoo claiming that it was hotter. I’ll let you guys be the judge. :)

Adobe InDesign Forearm Tattoos

adobe indesign tattoo

Adobe InDesign‘s Product Manager, Will Eisley, got his initials tattooed on his forearms, but took it one geeky step further. All those extra marks around the letters are part of InDesign’s printing marks. Hardcore geeks will notice the placement of the color and greyscale bars are not quite right (inside the image rather than outside the printed area). Will explains: “That’s true. I had to play with the position of the marks and color bars to get the aesthetic I wanted”.

Jinkies! It’s a Velma Tattoo!

Velma Tattoo

When someone named “Spider” emails you, talking about how his love for Velma was so great that he had to get her inked on him, you know they’re good people. Spider writes:

I have had the biggest crush on Velma since I was a small child. She is the perfect woman, smart, sexy and who can say no to a bespectacled beauty in an orange sweater? So it only made sense to have her immortalized on my body. I went to my artist, Ashley, and asked him to help me design her perfect form. I wanted it to be clearly Velma but with a definite tattoo-like appearance. I gotta say I love the result.

I have to agree. Who wants that high-maintenance, vain Daphne? Give me a wicked smart girl that can figure her own way out of a bind any day!

Lightsabers, Devo, and Galaga… oh my!

Lightsaber tattoos

If GeekyTattoos had a daily contest, I think Eric might win for today. Not one, not two, but three incredibly geeky tattoos on this man. My favorite has to be the forearm lightsabers. I have to wonder, does he get in trouble for “concealed weapons” on cold days? (The velociraptor shirt is a nice touch to up the geek in that photo) There’s also the Galaga tattoo on the back of his neck in all it’s pixelated glory.

And of course how could we forget the portrait tattoo of Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo? Truly a testament to geeky ink.

“Stained Glass” Zelda Tattoo

Zelda stained glass tattoo

For the Zelda fans out there, this tattoo is drool-worthy. It’s not just the typical Triforce or Hyrule Crest, although it has both of those hidden in there. The detailed line work, layout, and everything is just so well done. Unfortunately, as most things found on tumblr, there’s not much info on the owner or artists, so the usual.. If you know who this is or who did it, let us know!

Hat-tip to Josh for sending this one in

UPDATE: Looks like we’ve at least got the livejournal account of the owner of this tattoo. He goes by im_a_hot_dancer and posted it originally here. I haven’t been able to find out if he’s had it filled in with color yet or not, just a Photoshopped version of what it might look like with color. The original artist is “Tom” and there’s a bunch more pics of the 9-hour inking session over here.

UPDATE 2: Heard back from Steve and he says he got it done in one 9 hour sitting with Tom at King Street Body Gallery. Oh, and he’s still thinking over whether he wants to color it in or not.

SAP Tattoo

SAP Tattoo

Tattoos paying homage to various pieces of software are always intriguing to me. For some people software is just that-annoying-program-that-never-seems-to-do-what-I-want-when-I-click”, while for others it is part of their identity, their livelihood, or maybe just a hobby. I posted about Ivan (who recently invited me to his Windows 7 House Party) who loves Microsoft software and Google. There’s also the numerous people who get an Apple tattoo, but I warrant that’s probably more out of love for their hardware than software. There’s the guy that got the Reason tattoo, and the guy with the AutoCAD tattoo, not to mention all the video game tattoos floating around out there. Oh, and the awesome tech sleeve of Critter. ’nuff said.

But I’ll have to admit, this one caught me off guard. Tony writes in about his SAP tattoo:

The attached pictures are of my most geeky ink. I got this tattoo last August to celebrate the one year launch of SAP at my company. The launch wasn’t received positively by many people but for me- it was wonderful. I found love in a piece of software that I never saw coming. I plan on building upon my SAP tattoo collection in the future and then making a move to more recognizable “geek” ink; starting with a NES controller tattoo…!

For those that aren’t familiar, SAP is a company that makes business software. Stuff like Customer Relations Management software or Order Fulfillment, etc. Chances are many of the large companies you know use SAP. They’re the biggest software company in Europe and the 4th largest in the world. Since they’re a German company, they probably didn’t give much thought as to the acronym their name formed, but I hope Tony has given some thought as to how to explain to his date why he has the word “sap” tattooed on him. Although I’m sure that he’ll find the right person who appreciates his geeky ink (or maybe he already has!) as much as he appreciates SAP.

The Power Glove Tattoo

Power Glove Tattoo
Oh wow, this is a classic geeky tattoo that I’m surprised I haven’t added to the site yet. Many thanks to UgliestTattoos.com for pointing me back to it! Although I do have to say that I disagree with Ugliest Tattoos, as this tattoo is awesome. Just plain awesome. Not only does it make me wistful for the late 80s and the frustrating video game sessions trying to get the Power Glove to, you know, work but it also has a nod to The Wizard, another classic movie of that era. That said, I have to say I’m glad that Nintendo finally got the whole motion controller thing right with the Wii. Hey, has anyone gotten a Wii tattoo yet?

As usual with something like this that makes the rounds on the internet, there’s not much info on the owner or artist, so if you know any leads on this, let me know! I’d love to know the story behind this.

FOUND: 1 LOLcat Tattoo

LOLcat tattoo
I knew it wouldn’t be too long until we found someone with a LOLcat tattoo after I posted it on the “Tattoos We’d Like To See” page.  Andrew was kind enough to send in his friend’s tattoo that you see above.  While not confirmed, I have a slight suspicion that it’s based off of the following pic:
